Store owners among 22 indicted



The owners of a Mayking store which closed after it was raided in March for selling synthetic marijuana and hallucinogenic “bath salts” have been indicted on charges of trafficking in a controlled substance. An employee of the store is also named.

Mark A. Vandyke, 38, and Cheryl N. Vandyke, 32, both of 70 Slope Dr., Jenkins, and Keith Aaron Maschino, 36, 2 South Abdoo St., Neon, are each named in two separate indictments charging them with one count of complicity to trafficking in Analogue, commonly known as bath salts. The crimes allegedly occurred on January 18 and on March 5.

In a third indictment, the three are each charged with complicity to trafficking in Analogue and with complicity to trafficking in mushrooms, a controlled substance, on February 28.

Letcher County Sheriff’s Lt. Brian Damron testified in the cases.

The Vandykes and Maschino are named indictments reported by the grand jury on April 26.

The grand jury also charged four persons — Wendy D. Varner, 35, also known as Wendy D. Cook, 454 Church St., Lynch; Billy Ray Thacker, 31, Holly Bush Road, Caney; Sara Deminionne Lee, 30, 562 Second St., Lynch; and Christopher Shane Raleigh, 26, 90 Olympia Dr., Partridge — with introducing the anti-addiction drug Suboxone, a controlled substance, into the Letcher County Jail on March 8.

Raleigh was also indicted on a charge of being a persistent felony offender.

Others indicted and the charges against them are:

• Dustin Isaac Yeary — robbery, being a persistent felony offender.

The grand jury says Yeary, 27, robbed Karen Heron and Merya Bentley on March 21, using the threat of physical force.

In a separate indictment, he is accused of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Kentucky State Police Detective Kevin Hurt testifi ed in the cases.

• John W. Greer — theft by deception.

The grand jury says Greer, 49, 197 Store Hill Rd., Burdine, obtained $1,400 from a cooperating witness of the Kentucky State Police on March 28 by selling the witness what he claimed to be cocaine, but which was not cocaine.

In a separate indictment, he is charged with obtaining $1,400 from a cooperating witness of the Kentucky State Police on April 4 by selling the witness what he claimed to be cocaine, but which was not cocaine.

• Bennett Matthew Kincer — theft, burglary.

The grand jury says Kincer, 28, 246 Bilvia Dr., Jenkins, took property belonging to Leah McElroy and family, 25 Chevy Dr., Jenkins, including $1000 in cash, a diamond engagement ring, and a computer on Jan. 2.

• Jason Tait Hall — assault.

Hall, 34, 212 Straight Row, Jenkins, is accused of injuring a woman on March 14-19,

In a separate indictment, he is charged with sodomy on March 14-19 through forcible compulsion.

Lynn Egger-Bentley testifi ed in the cases.

Eleven other persons are named in 17 indictments returned by the grand jury on April 17, including an Isom man charged in four indictments with sexual abuse of a child.

James Earl Bunch, 48, 1599 Hwy. 1148, Isom, is charged in each of the indictments with first degree sexual abuse of a girl under 12 years of age. The grand jury say the abuse took place from January 2003 through December 2009.

Others indicted are:

• Angela Dawn Call — criminal complicity first degree robbery.

The grand jury says Call, 37, also know as Angela Call Lyons and Angela Dawn Wright, 684 Premier Sub Division, Jenkins, and 65 #1 Bottom, Jenkins, acted with Larry Kent Wright in threatening physical force upon Creed Newsome and Ella Newsome while committing theft on Dec. 28.

In a separate indictment, she is accused of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Kentucky State Police Detective Randy Combs testified in the cases.

• Larry Kent Wright — criminal complicity first degree robbery.

The grand jury says Wright, 42, 684 Premier Sub Division, Jenkins, and 65 #1 Bottom, Jenkins, acted with Angela Dawn Wright in threatening physical force upon Creed Newsome and Ella Newsome while committing theft on Dec. 28.

• Jamie Edward Sturgill — Driving without a license/ negligence in an accident, driving with suspended license, no insurance, failure to produce insurance card, failure to register transfer of vehicle, leaving scene of accident/failure to render aid, falsely reporting incident, public intoxication, resisting arrest, four counts of terroristic threatening, fleeing or evading police, assault, possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, controlled substance not in proper container.

The grand jury says Sturgill, 38, 63 Blueberry Road, Ermine, was driving a vehicle involved in a collision which caused property damage on Feb. 22. He is charged with threatening Letcher County Sheriff Danny Webb, Whitesburg Chief of Police Tyrone Fields, Kentucky State Trooper Donald White and Eva Collins, whose home he also threatened to burn.

• Kristie Frazier — receiving stolen property.

Frazier, 23, 83 Harbor Dr., Whitesburg, is accused of acting with Eric Scott Frazier in possessing a U.S. Postal money order in the amount of $1,000 on Nov. 3, which had been stolen from John “J.B.” Halcomb.

• Eric Scott Frazier — receiving stolen property.

Frazier, 30, 83 Harbor Dr., Whitesburg, is accused of acting with Kristie Frazier in possessing a U.S. Postal money order in the amount of $1,000 on Nov. 3, which had been stolen from John “J.B.” Halcomb.

• Charity Hall — assault, harassing communications.

Hall, 20, 8708 Hwy. 7 North, Whitesburg, is accused of causing injury to Dani Conley with a deadly weapon on Feb. 2. She is also charged with repeatedly alarming Conley and hand delivering a letter to Conley with the intent of harassing her.

• Komas Donnie Bryant Jr. — bail jumping.

The grand jury says Bryant, 38, 1457 Elkhorn Creek Road, Shelby Gap, failed to appear for a preliminary hearing in Letcher District Court in connection with a felony charge on Feb. 9.

• William Daniel Bentley — bail jumping.

The grand jury says Bentley, 37, 1548 Sheas Fork, P.O. Box 104, McRoberts, failed to appear for a pre-trial conference in Letcher Circuit Court in connection with a felony charge on March 14.

• Timothy Lee Banks — bail jumping.

The grand jury says Banks, 45, 487 Thicket Branch, Ermine, failed to appear for arraignment in Letcher Circuit Court in connection with a felony charge on March 14.

• Eric Duwayne Howard — bail jumping.

The grand jury says Howard, 29, 1110 Ky. Hwy. 2036, P.O. Box 5, Isom, failed to appear for a pretrial conference in Letcher Circuit Court in connection with a felony charge on March 14.
