Striper wins trophy in Georgia

Russell and Minerva Yonts came down from Indiana, and on Thursday, Minerva, Anna and Duane all went to Roger and Tracy Yonts’s at Dahlonega, Ga., for their annual fishing trip. Roger’s friend, Isabella, has a wonderful campsite on the river, which the fishermen enjoy for the week. The big fish catch this year was a 34-inch stripe caught by Duane. He won the trophy for the year.

Also visiting for the fun were James and Cindy Yonts from Ft. Rucker, Ala.; Joey Yonts, Duane and Anna’s son; Tim and Jane, son and daughter-in-law of Minerva and Russell; Jeff , a son-in-law of Anna and Duane; Jessica and Beth, Anna and Duane’s granddaughters; and Maggie and Sid, great-grandchildren of Anna and Duane. It was a great trip to north Georgia, and the lovely mountain scenery.

Shade and Judy Jones of Naples, Fla., stopped by Bennett and Linda Combs’s while they were here visiting others. Bennett is Shade Jones’s uncle.

A birthday party was held Saturday at Regina Crawford’s for her daughter, Christina, and her grandson, Jacob Cornett. Several family and friends were there, including Dustin and Jenna Crawford of Indianapolis.

Robby Crawford enjoyed coming to the Mountain Heritage Festival this year.

Happy birthday to Michael Finchum, Oct. 3.

Ramona Combs Finchum and others are planning a 30-year class reunion of the WHS graduation class of 1980, Oct. 23, at Cowan Community Center. Her email address is mafincham@ bellsouth.net.

Several members and friend from the Little Cowan Church attended the meeting of the Eastern District Association of Primitive Baptists at Richardson’s Chapel near Louisa. It was a wonderful weekend in a beautiful setting with perfect weather, gracious hospitality, great preaching and singing, fellowship, and most of all, the presence of the Holy Spirit.
