Finally, it feels like hunting season

It finally feels like hunting season. I have gotten several pictures of our friends getting some nice bucks in Letcher County, but no stories.

I requested some information from my friend Donna Mason. Her son Nick got his first buck, but I haven’t heard back from her yet. I will. Donna is great about keeping me updated, and I also understand this is his first buck. Remember his elk last season?

I want to remind everyone that our modern firearms season opens on November 10. Now is not too early to get your things together. Remember your hunter orange, and that bullets have no eyes. Be sure of your target before pulling the trigger. Let’s make this an accident free season. If you are hunting out of a tree stand, use your safety harness, even while climbing in and out. Most falls happen while doing just that. Come home safe to your family.

Again I would like to take time to mention my friend Raymond “Pap” Brown. Although he is doing better, he still is not one hundred percent, so anything you can do will cheer him up — a call, a card, a visit will help.

With the selling of beer locally now, please be extra careful about taking a beer along with you into the woods. If you are going to drink, do it after the guns are unloaded and put away.

I am still after my Slam, but I’m sure I will get it. I have seen several jakes and hens within my bow range, but just can’t bring myself to fling the arrow no matter how much I want my Slam. Be careful and get up with me with your stories.
