Our favorite time of the year, turkey season, is now a fading memory. True to my word, I did get my Eastern this year, but it came at a terrible price. I never killed anything in Florida, and only took a quick trip out west, where I got a Merriam and a Hybird.
I ended my season with three turkeys total. Gone are the days, it seems, of my killing six to eight a season. The years and miles have finally taken their toll. But we still had more than enough fun this year, from hog hunting in the swamps of Florida to chasing an emu over a 400-acre farm. As usual I have tried to put you right beside me in everything we did.
Now it is time to put away our turkey gear. That means cleaning our guns, washing our camo clothing, and taking just a few days to reflect about were we have been and where we are going.
The Letcher County Kids Days events will be firing up again soon, and that will give us time to sit around and renew old friendships. With the spring upon us can summer be far behind? What a great time to be alive — and to tell someone how much you love them.
Once again, because of the people of Letcher County, I live a life bigger than a dream.
