The Rotary Club of Whitesburg started the Imagination Library Program in January 2012 to make books available to every child in Letcher County from birth to five years of age to help prepare them for kindergarten and later in life. Rotarians Margaret Hammonds and Barbara Ison recently visited Deborah Hall’s kindergarten class at Arlie Boggs Elementary to share the story, “The Little Engine That Could,” and to give every child in the class a book to take home.

Deborah Hall said that all the students in her class are readers and they love books.

Approximately 650 children in Letcher County are currently receiving free books through the Imagination Library Program. Once registered, a free book will be mailed to the home each month until the child turns five. Registration forms are available at Whitaker Bank, Community Trust Bank, and online at www.imaginationlibrary. com. For more information on the program, contact Margaret Hammonds at 606-821-8165 or Barbara Ison at 606-634- 2106.
