Suspected heroin dealers are among 14 indicted


Fourteen people have been named in 17 indictments in Letcher Circuit Court including three Dayton, Ohio men and a Blackey woman charged with criminal complicity to trafficking methamphetamine and heroin.

The four, Diauzarae Curry, 19; Diangelo Kerley, 25; and Dhandre Wright 20, all of Dayton, and Jina Back, 52, of 3887 Woodrock Rd., Blackey, are each charged with criminal complicity to trafficking a controlled substance (more than two grams, methamphetamine), complicity to trafficking a controlled substance (heroin, first offense), criminal complicity to use/possess drug paraphernalia and second-degree criminal complicity to possession of controlled substance.

Officer Seth Whitaker of the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department testified in the cases.

Others indicted are:

• Robert Cornett, 44, also known as Brent Cornett, 247 Cornett’s Br., Linefork, who is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana (less than two grams), first-degree possession of a controlled substance (heroin) and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kentucky State Trooper Jarrett Fields testified in the case.

• Derrick Blair, 30, 226 Carrion Dr., Whitesburg, who is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (first offense, methamphetamine), failure of non-owner to maintain required insurance/ security (first offense), failure to register transfer of motor vehicle, operating a vehicle on suspended operator’s license, no/expired registration plates, no/expired registration receipt, failure to produce insurance card and buy/possess drug paraphernalia.

Whitesburg Police Officer Michael Garner testified in the case.

• Gary Combs, 57, 151 Redbud Lane, Isom, who is charged with trafficking a controlled substance (two grams or more, second offense or greater, methamphetamine) and buy/ possess drug paraphernalia.

Officer James Norris of the Letcher County Sheriff’s Department testified in the case.

• Sonya Mullins, 47, 13039 Hwy. 588, Blackey, who is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (first offense, methamphetamine) and buy/possess drug paraphernalia.

Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines testified in the case.

In a second indictment, Mullins is charged with first-degree bail jumping.

• Larry Wayne Bentley, 44, 2206 Walnut Street, Catlettsburg, who is charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, possession of marijuana and being a first-degree persistent felony offender.

Kentucky State Trooper Jarrett Fields testified in the case.

• Jeremy Gibson, 37, 41 Love’s Branch, Deane, who is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (first offense, methamphetamine) and buy/possess drug paraphernalia.

In a second indictment, Gibson is charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Officer James Norris of the Letcher County Sheriff’s Department testified in the cases.

• Joe Owsley, 29, 5850 Hwy. 805, Jenkins, who is charged with criminal complicity to cultivation of marijuana (five plants or more, first offense, with firearm enhancement), criminal complicity to buy/ possess drug paraphernalia (with firearm enhancement), criminal complicity to possession of marijuana and criminal complicity to endangering the welfare of a minor.

In a second indictment Owsley is charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

• Tiffany Owsley, 25, 5850 Hwy. 805, Jenkins, who is charged with criminal complicity to cultivation of marijuana (five plants or more, first offense, with firearm enhancement), criminal complicity to buy/possess drug paraphernalia (with firearm enhancement), criminal complicity to possession of marijuana and criminal complicity to endangering the welfare of a minor.

Kentucky State Police Detective Anthony Trotter testified in the Owsley cases.

• Judith Keitha Sturgill, 44, 3904 Thornton Rd., Thornton, who is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (first offense, methamphetamine), third-degree possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified), buy/possess drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Whitesburg Police Officer Mike Garner testified in the case.

• Kristina Tackett, 38, also known as Kristina Brock, 489 Adams Branch, Jeremiah, who is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (first offense, methamphetamine) buy/possess drug paraphernalia and third-degree possession of controlled substance (drug unspecified).

Officer James Norris of the Letcher County Sheriff’s Department testified.
