My grandpa, Jay Vanover, lost his right leg in the coal mines many years ago. They buried his leg on the hill of Church House Hollow in Letcher County.
For a long time he told us that the leg was hurting him so much he could not stand it.
We dug the leg up months later. We found a tree root had grown into his leg. We cleaned the roots out, and reburied the bone.
Grandpa lived a very long life, and had no other trouble with that leg the rest of his life. You should have seen him dancing with the girls.
