Tane Campbell celebrates her birthday at the beach

Tommy Halcomb of Carcassonne, had to have some places removed from his face and back that are cancerous. His surgery was set for August 28. Tommy turned 85 in July. His daughter, Ella Wright, called me from Alabama and said her daughter, Cecilia, had gotten a scholarship to Yale. She is going into the medical field. Cecilia is the granddaughter of Tommy and Lorene Halcomb, and Grant and Emma Wright of Alabama, formerly of Jenkins. They are all very proud of her. That’s a big accomplishment. There will be a picture of her in next week’s paper. I didn’t get it in time for this week. She graduated in May from the Indian Springs School in Birmingham, Ala.

Also, a few weeks ago Lorene, Johnny, Becky and Cody went to Tennessee to the Dixie Stampede. They met Ella’s other sister, Sharon, there. She is also from Alabama. One of Tom’s other daughters, Brenda, stayed with him while they were gone.

Happy birthday to Tane Campbell of Linefork; it was on July 6. Tane and her sister, Brigette, with her stepchildren, Hillary, Wesley, and Erica, along with friends Liz and Monica and niece Beth’s boys, Dylan and Christian, all went on a vacation to Hilton Head Island, S.C. They stayed in a three-story house with a large swimming pool and only a few minutes from the beach. The kids enjoyed riding their boogie boards in the ocean, building sand castles, eating out every night, riding their bikes, shopping, viewing the marshlands at the oyster factory, visiting the Salty Dog Cafe for lunch at South Beach Marina, and painting crafts at a local art cafe. Tane said her favorite thing was taking long walks on the beach in the mornings and evenings because it was so peaceful. They all enjoyed it so much it was hard having to come home. They were there July 6 through July 13.

Jacob Caudill, the son of Phillip and Mashawna Caudill, had to be taken to the Pikeville hospital last week. He was having seizures, but he is now doing fine. He has had a cold and when he gets a high fever it causes the seizures. Jacob is the grandson of Bruce and Rita Gilley of Letcher. I don’t know Phillip’s family. Bruce and Rita had been in Tennessee for a vacation but came back on Friday evening.

Beluah and Clyde Shepherd of Indianapolis, are in Panama City, Fla., for a vacation. They do a lot of traveling.

Ann Whitaker called to remind everyone about the meeting at the Old Indian Bottom Church at the Frog Pond. It will be on Sept. 4. It’s always held the first Tuesday of the month. It will start at 6:30 p.m. and everyone is welcome.

Happy birthday to my niece, Shanna Adams of Carcassonne. It is on Sept. 4.

Happy birthday to Wayne “Junior Samples” Caudill of Blackey. He turned 59 on August 25. My dad, P-nut, gave him that nickname, not me.

Happy birthday to sisters Shelby and Paige Chaney of Whitesburg. They turned 17 on August 25.
