Funeral services for Teddy Gene Sturgill, 74, of Eolia, will be held today (Wednesday) in Pound, Va. Graveside services will be in the Hampton Cemetery in Eolia on Thursday, June 27, at 11 a.m.
A son of the late Woodrow and Maudie Sturgill, he died June 24 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Mr. Sturgill was a deacon and member of the Millstone Primitive Baptist Church in Eolia, and had worked as a graderman for the Kentucky State Highway Department for more than 20 years.
An avid gun enthusiast, he collected eagle statues and enjoyed both fishing and hunting.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Naoma Hampton Sturgill; a brother, Billy Sturgill of Roann, Ind.; four sisters, Beulah Coots and husband Harold, and Peggy Sue Castle and husband Henry, all of Wabash, Ind., Patsy Wendell and husband Don of Portland, Ind., and Pearl Sturgill of Roann, Ind.; two nephews, Sheldon Sturgill and wife Stacy of Hennessey, Okla., and Chad Stidham and wife Crystal of Whitesburg; four grandchildren, Keetan Sturgill, Regan Sturgill, Blaney Sturgill and Tryson Sturgill; and friends James “Bud” Cornett of Linefork, and Lewis Hampton of Payne Gap.
Mr. Sturgill was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ronnie, Bob and Foister, and a brother-inlaw, Hassell Hampton.
