CANE Kitchen in Whitesburg is offering a free community Thanksgiving dinner on November 26.
The nonprofit community kitchen will be providing drive-through dinners from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. next Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. There is no charge for the service, and the organization will provide traditional Thanksgiving dinners to anyone who wants one. Anyone who wants more than six dinners should call Brandon at (606) 403-1095 ahead of time to order the food.
The meal will include turkey, dressing, gravy and sides.
“We just want to give back to the community and be sure people have what they need,” one of the organizers, Valerie Horn, said.
The kitchen had offered free meals once a week on the premises until the coronavirus hit. The Thanksgiving meal is labeled as a “Healthy at Home” dinner because the meals are served to go so no one has to get out of the car. The organization will also be doing online activities to make it more of a community feeling. Anyone who wants to participate visit the CANE Kitchen page on Facebook, said Horn.
“We did this too at the drive-through concerts and took food out to the cars,” she said. “This will be the same as the summer food service-flow.”
The meal is sponsored by CANE Kitchen, Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation, Cowan Community Center, National Recreational Parks, Appalachian Impact Fund, Grow Appalachia and Mountain Gypsy Boutique.
