Theft suspect out on bond

A 34-year-old Linefork woman has pleaded not guilty to stealing $32,240 from a beer and tobacco store in Whitesburg.

Susan Faye Sturgill Meade (also known as Susie Sturgill Meade) pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning in Letcher Circuit Court to one count of theft of more than $10,000.

During the arraignment, Letcher Circuit Judge Sam Wright set a surety bond at $5,000.

Meade was represented in court by Hindman attorney Terry Jacobs. A pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on June 26.

The Letcher County Grand Jury recently returned an indictment against Sturgill in which she is accused of stealing money from sale proceeds that should have gone to Ervinia Haynes, owner of the East Kentucky Discount Tobacco and Beer Store of Whitesburg. The jury said the crime occurred from November 1, 2012 through January 15, 2013.
