Thieves hit low mark, steal $5,000 from Little League

The Letcher Little League is offering a $300 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever stole baseball equipment and food from an Isom field last week.

Catching equipment, balls, bats, gloves, equipment bags and helmets were taken from a field house located off Red Bud Lane on May 1, said Crystal Caudill, vice president of the Letcher Little League.

All of the food stored in the concession stand was also stolen, said Caudill.

She estimates the cost of all items that were stolen to total about $5,000. The Letcher Little League has six teams this season with children ranging from four to 12 years old.

The perpetrator entered the concession stand/field house through large windows with swinging, wooden panels, Caudill said. The wooden panels were damaged.

The season has just started for Letcher Little League. Games were played Tuesday evening. Games were canceled Thursday after the items were stolen.

Games resumed Friday evening after borrowing equipment from other leagues and using older equipment.

Caudill said the league plans on buying new equipment.

Kentucky State Police are investigating the burglary. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call KSP at (606) 435-6069.
