Thomas Parsons, 84, dies

Funeral services for Thomas “T.J.” Parsons, 84, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, in Whitesburg. Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery in Ermine.

A son of the late Wendell and Dora Caudill Parsons, he died May 5 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. He was preceded in death by a brother, Parnell Parsons; a sister Lucille Blanton; and two stepchildren, Rickey Lynn Niece and Regina Kay Niece.

Mr. Parsons was a member of Millstone Methodist Church since 2011. He was also a coal operator with his brothers for years. He loved spending time with his special grandson, Rickey “Will”, teaching him how to fish and later teaching him about boats, cars and trucks.

Surviving are his wife, Lena Bates Parsons; his step-grandson and buddy, Rickey Wilford Niece; his step-grandson, Will Niece and wife Patience and children, Annistin, Wolfgang, Piper and Striker Niece of Wise, Va.; his step-granddaughters, Stacy Niece Cunningham, Brianna Lawson and Taylor Cunningham, all of Blountville, Tenn.; three brothers, Donnie Parsons and wife Dreama of Kingsport, Tenn., Loyall Parsons and wife Lorine of Mayking, and Dale Parsons and wife Maxine of Eolia; two sisters, Ann Sayers of Eolia, and Carolyn Boggs and husband Danny of Whitesburg; a special friend, “Pal” Dawson Cornett of Colson; and Kathy Barnette of Wise, Va.
