Three Letcher inmates released from prisons





Three inmates from Letcher County were released recently from the custody of the Kentucky Department of Corrections.

• Douglas Ray Mercer, 58, was released from prison April 1. He was serving a sentence for firstdegree sodomy (two counts) and had been in prison since September 1, 1995, when he was sentenced to 24 years. He plans to live in Marietta, South Carolina.

• Vincent Watts, 45, was freed on February 19. Watts began serving a three-year sentence for flagrant non-support on April 11, 2007.

• Benny J. Tackett, 65, has been free since February 27. Tackett had been in prison since July 12, 1989, and was serving a 30-year sentence for first-degree rape (two counts), incest (two counts), firstdegree sexual abuse (two counts), first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor (four counts) and use of a minor in a sexual performance (two counts). He now lives in Cleveland, Ohio.
