Thurman Tackett dies in Ohio



Thurman ‘Jay Bird’ McKinley Tackett, 63, died November 12 at his home in Marion, Ohio.

Born in Jenkins to the late Frank Harvey and Leitha Ray Tackett, he was a brother of the late Billy Tackett, Donald Ray Tackett, Ulysses Grant Tackett, Lexie Lee Ambrose and Patricia Lou Phelps.

Tackett was a horse trainer for 35 years, and was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association and the Horseman Association.

Surviving are his wife, Pamela Jo Tackett; three sons, Thurman ‘Fuzz’ McKinley Tackett Jr., Terry Lee Tackett and wife Julie Ann, and Tony Joe Tackett and wife Joyle Cecilia; four grandchildren, Cierra Tackett, Terry ‘T.J.’ Jason Tackett, Lee Ann Sadie Tackett and Gabriela Jo Tackett; three step-grandchildren, Cody Patrick Foy, Caleb James Foy and Tyler Jacob Foy; three sisters, Dorsey Ann Smallwood, Selena Sue Gilbert, and Mary Nell Frazier; and three brothers, Jack Tackett, James ‘Chum’ Tackett, and Grayson Tackett.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday), November 18, at the Carty Funeral Homes’ Polly & Craft Chapel in Jenkins. Burial will be in Tackett Cemetery in Jenkins.
