Tourney benefits Trooper Island

This past weekend, Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard hosted the annual KSP basketball tournament to raise money for the Trooper Island Camp. Trooper Island is a weeklong camp attended by underprivileged 10-12-year-old boys and girls.

This year, 12 teams represented posts or other divisions of KSP throughout the state. The teams were: Bowling Green Post 3, Elizabethtown Post 4, Dry Ridge Post 6, Campbellsburg Post 5, Ashland Post 14, London Post 11, Pikeville Post 9, Specials Operations Branch, Harlan Post 10, Frankfort Post 12 and Hazard Post 13. The first place trophy went to Post 13 in Hazard; the runner-up was Special Operations.

This year’s event was held at the Knott County Sportsplex on Friday and Saturday. All tournament proceeds go to Trooper Island. The teams played hard and after a very close game, Post 13 won its first championship since 1998.

This year’s Tournament Most Valuable Player was Post 13’s custodian, Tommy Collins of Amburgey.

Anyone who wishes to make a donation to Trooper Island can do so by contacting the local Kentucky State Police post or Trooper Island.
