Townsel Lee Adams dies at 89


Townsel Lee “TLee” Adams, 89, of Louisville, died Thanksgiving Day, November 25.

The son of Townsel C. and Minnie F. Adams, he was born in Whitesburg. He was graduated from Millersburg Military Institute and then the University of Louisville in Arts and Sciences, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and voted “Mr. Thoroughbred” by his peers.

Mr. Adams was graduated from the UofL School of Dentistry in 1958. He joined the Air Force and left active duty as a captain.

He and his wife moved to Lawrenceburg, where he spent his dental career and where they raised their four children. He was active in the community and the First Christian Church and also served on the local school board.

Following Donna Adams’s death in 1995, Mr. Adams moved to Louisville and married Phyllis Ann Cain. They enjoyed traveling, a wide circle of friends, and their home, especially their back porch.

He was an active Mason, serving in the Thor Chapter Aurora #633 and Eastern Star Middletown Chapter #319. He twice reached the office of Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, the highest achievement offered.

He was preceded in death by his son, Capt. Scott M. Adams (U.S.A.) and also his wife, Donna H. Adams.

Surviving are survived by his son, Steve (Michael); his son, David (Barbara); his daughter, Amy Schirmer (Pete); his grandchildren, Ashlyn, Courtlyn, Allison, Emily, Eric, Isaac, Charles and Adam; his great-grandson Hudson Sosby; his wife, Phyllis Ann Hall Cain Adams; and his extended Somerset family, his wife Phyllis Adams’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will host a reception on Sunday, December 5, at The Ripy House in Lawrenceburg from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, and to honor the women in his life, memorial gifts can be made to the Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home, Lawrenceburg.
