Toyota donates to Cowan group

Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK) has given $2,500 to the Cowan Community Action Group, Inc. (CCAG). The donation will go towards a partnership CCAG has formed with Cowan Elementary School to conduct theatrical plays, which will be put on by the school’s fifth- and eighth grade students.

Students will use their classroom lessons to create musical productions that will be performed for the general public, as well as other county school students. Organizers hope the collaborative productions will assist in increasing student’s CATS test scores in the arts and humanities area.

TMMK hand-picked a team member with a local connection to present the group with a check at their recent board meeting, David Absher, a Letcher County native and current Georgetown resident. Absher has a very personal connection to the CCAG. He grew up in the Cowan Creek community and is very familiar with the work of the group.

“I’m very excited to represent Toyota at this special event,” said Absher, a manager in TMMK’s Facilities Control division. “TMMK is supporting a very worthwhile project that is making a big difference in this community”.
