Twin sisters celebrate birthday

Whitesburg

Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well.

Time is going by so fast it’s hard to keep up. But I enjoy life. I can always find things to be thankful for, I just look for them.

My son Billy and wife Sandra and I all went to the Pine Mountain Grill for breakfast and it was good seeing Earl Napier there. He is so nice and friendly and we all enjoyed talking to him, and also my nephew, James Pennington.

I think that’s why I go to the Grill, to see people and visit, but the food there is good and the people who work there are so friendly.

Iva (Absher) Cheatham called the other day. She asked about everyone. She loves to hear about her old Marlowe friends. She lives in Stanford now.

We lost another good friend this weekend, Wanda (Standifer) Day, the wife of John Q. Day of Cowan. I went to the visitation for her on Friday night and met many good friends there. Her brother, Jack Standifer, and family are members of our church and real good friends.

It was good seeing all the Gerrard Collins family. I talked with his son Harry and, Bub, I’m not going to say anything to get you in trouble. I’d like to, but I won’t.

Just kidding. He’s a good old boy, and I’ve known him about all of his life.

Most of the people in my church were there. I’m not going to mention names, but I was glad to see all of them.

I finally got to talk with my old friend, Anna Watkins in Florida. We kept missing each other. She has a twin sister, Lucille, who also lives in Florida. They had a birthday party for both of them, and Anna is supposed to send me some pictures. I’m looking forward to that.

I saw Carol (Hatton) Baker in Parkway Drugstore last Friday. I don’t know how she stays looking so pretty.

Christine Fields, I like to read your news. You always mention someone I know.

My sister Louise Shepherd came out to visit me last Friday, and I was glad to see her. We don’t visit much, we just call each other often.

I’m enjoying this cooler weather. It makes me want to stay outside. When winter comes I will want to stay inside.

I went to a baby shower on Saturday for Andrea Hatton, the wife of Dr. Jonathon Hatton. I never saw so many handmade gifts in my life. So beautiful, and enough to decorate a whole baby room. They had a houseful of guests and great food. It was a great shower. It was at the Presbyterian Church of Whitesburg.

My son, Larry, and his wife Linda, had gone to the lake for the weekend. I hope they got some rest and enjoyed themselves.

I just heard that another Marlowe friend has died, Virginia Profitt. She lived just up the road from me. She moved to Raceland a few years ago to live close to her son, Doug Profitt. He was the joy of her life, and she loved living close to him. He was her only child.

I offer my sympathy to Doug and Kathy and the rest of her family. She loved her family.

I enjoyed sitting with Anna Lee Maggard at the funeral of Wanda Day. Anna Lee said her sister, Shirley Jarrett, who lives in Michigan, likes to read my boring news. I’d like to say a big hello to her. I may know her, but can’t place her. She is married to David Jarrett from Whitesburg.

I went to high school with his sister, the late Letha Ann (Jarrett) Collins, and she invited me to her house for homemade ice cream. I was 15 years old and had never had it before. I thought they had to be rich. They weren’t, but they were nice people. I never forgot that.

Well, I guess I have rattled on long enough, so may God bless all of you. Try to be in church somewhere this week if you are able.
