Two Pound, Va., residents were arrested at Fishpond Lake on drug-related charges.
Valarie Harris, 31, and Anthony Hollyfield, 37, were arrested at 2:21 p.m. on March 22 and charged with public intoxication (controlled substance), possession of a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance not in its proper container and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The arrests occurred after Harris’s vehicle was found blocking a roadway at Fishpond Lake, located at Payne Gap. When Harris was asked to move her vehicle, she “was seen attempting to shoot up” drugs, said a police citation written by Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Officer Robbie Spears.
Letcher County Ranger Phillip Slone, who assisted with the arrest, said the vehicle was parked near a bathroom facility. When Harris stepped out of the vehicle, she had a spoon with a blue residue in it and told officers it was the narcotic painkiller oxycodone, according to the citation.
Hollyfield was in the passenger side of the vehicle and was also “attempting to shoot up,” the citation said. Hollyfield admitted to taking oxycodone, and blue pills and multiple needles were also found in the vehicle.
Both Harris and Hollyfield were released from the Letcher County Jail after posting $1,000 surety bonds on March 22.
