Two held after rail steel found chained to truck

Two Letcher County men were arrested Sunday night after police found a stolen railroad steel chained to the bumper of a truck.

Dusty Shell, 18, of Buck Creek, and Dana Eldridge, 46, of Whitesburg, were charged with theft after the Letcher County Sheriff’s Department and Kentucky State Police on June 1 responded to a call explaining that there was railroad steel in the roadway on KY 7 North in Deane.

Letcher County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Damron said he and Trooper Adam Hall saw a blue Chevy S-10 stopped in the roadway at Kentucky May Road near Love’s Branch around 11 p.m.

Damron said the two men had allegedly stolen the railroad steel from a mine site at Kentucky May Road.

“They had it chained to the bumper and were dragging it down the road,” said Damron.

Hall and Damron have charge of the investigation.
