Two hurt in 5-car accident

Two people appeared to be seriously injured after a five-vehicle accident on the Whitesburg Bypass Tuesday afternoon, according to Whitesburg Police Officer Phillip Slone.

“The first vehicle stopped and the other one hit them in the back and it was a chain reaction,” said Slone.

The wreck occurred at 12:45 p.m. near Circle Drive.

Slone said William Wright, 87, of Jenkins, Pauline Wright, 87, of Jenkins and Lena Brashears, 39, of Whitesburg, were transported by ambulance to nearby Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital. Slone said two people went to the hospital by private vehicle.

Slone said none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening.

Slone, who is in charge of the investigation, said the actual cause of the wreck has not been determined and is still under investigation.
