Two student representatives — senior Lindsey Belcher and junior Andrew Watts — have been selected to represent Jenkins Middle High School as student senators this yea. The ARI Student Senate is a leadership program and a part of the Race to the Top Grant received by the Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative.
The job of the students in this program will be to develop within their districts means of obtaining the students’ opinions and ideas for improving education, culture, and community service, and then formulate a plan for changing their districts for the better. Already, Belcher and Watts have conducted a survey during first period classes.
The two students selected will participate in an induction ceremony on August 26 in Pikeville at the new judicial building. The students will also be developing promising practices with other students at the Promising Practices/ Health Conference being held in Pikeville at the East Kentucky Expo Center on October 26.
