At 6:45 p.m., Dec. 10, members of the Whitesburg community will gather to perform Phil Kline’s “Unsilent Night”. The free outdoor event is recorded on cassettes, CDs, and mp3s, and everyone is invited to participate.
“Unsilent Night” started out as an annual holiday caroling party by Kline, a New York-based composer, in 1992 and has since evolved into a multi-city, international event. The Whitesburg performance will mark the first time the piece has taken place in a rural community.
Those who wish to participate should bring a boombox or other portable music player to the parking lot of the First Baptist Church on Madison Avenue in Whitesburg. The music will be provided. The group will walk through town to The Underground Gallery at 229 Main St.
The event is being held in conjunction with Whitesburg’s December Artwalk and The Underground Gallery, which will be open Dec. 10 from 4 to 9 p.m. For more information, contact carolinerubens@yahoo. com.
