You folks in Letcher County, honor a veteran for his self-sacrifice for our country.
During my 27 years in the military, I would give some of my workers off that day, or let them leave early. During wartime and working 24/7, it was sometimes hard to do. I’m very proud to have served my country.
I think one of the best things Jenkins did for us veterans was to build the Railroad Museum. I’ve only been there a few times, and my first name was misspelled. I’ve told them I would pay to have it fixed. When my young grandkids saw my name on the wall, they said, “Grandpa, they spelled your name wrong.” (That hurt.)
So you folks, honor a hero for Veterans Day.
