Vets honored

Veterans Day celebrations were held last week at Letcher County Central High School at Ermine and at the Letcher County Veterans Museum in downtown Whitesburg. In photo at top, Letcher Central teacher Kim Sergent recognized Darrell Holbrook and Buddy Grubbs, volunteers with the Letcher County Veterans Memorial Museum, for their help in organizing the high school’s Veterans Day program. At right, Jimmy Duncan of Whitco, who spent 32 months as a prisoner of war in Korea, looked at a plaque presented to him at the Letcher Central celebration. Below, Orville Collier Sr., 89, of Partridge poses with son Orville Jr. The elder Collier is believed to be the county’s oldest surviving World War II vet.
