Virginia Brown, 98, dies

Virginia Dale Gibson Brown, 98, died January 20 at her home in Whitesburg.

Born in Whitesburg to the late Joseph “Hop” Gibson and Minerva Adams Gibson, she was the widow of Myrel Brown.

She was the mother of the late Stephen Brown.

Mrs. Brown was also preceded in death by two brothers and eight sisters, Edwin “Ed” Gibson and wife Lassie, John Gibson, Nora Boyd and husband James, Thelma Banks and husband Charlie, Beulah Caudill and husband Cassel, Geneva Caudill and husband Edison, Louama Banks and husband Edgar, Mattie Vern Banks and husband Russell “Jeff”, Minnie Vae Banks and husband Bernard, and Willa June Gibson.

She was an active member of the Little Cowan Primitive Baptist Church, and a charter member of the Daughters of American Revolution for 30 years.

She was also a charter member of the Cowan Homemakers for 70 years, and a member of the Eastern

Star for 50 years.

Surviving are two sons, Joe Brown and wife Linda of Forest, Miss., and Randy Brown and wife Eula Mae of Whitesburg; a daughter-inlaw, Linda Brown of Blountville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Joshua Brown and wife Lisa Jo, Jacob Brown and wife April, Sara Beth Brown, Robert Brown and wife Sherrie, Jenny Brown, Andrea Barrett and husband Randy, Brittany Mitchell, Kevin Garrett and wife Kimberly, and Jason Brown; 22 great-grandchildren, Oliver, Hannah, Leannah, Savannah, Jacob, Bradley, Joseph, Joshua, John, Christal, Dallas, Dusty, Destinee, McKenna, Chance, Gentry, Bradon, Landon, Cody, Cory, Cameron, and Eli; and a great-great-grandchild, Jackson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brown were held January 22 at the Little Cowan Primitive Baptist Church. Burial was in the Hop Gibson Cemetery at Little Cowan.

Letcher Funeral Home of Whitesburg had charge of arrangements.
