Volleyball team (26-3) to play for tourney title

The Letcher County Central High School girls’ volleyball team will play for the championship of the 53rd District Volleyball Tournament in Hindman Thursday night at Knott County Central High School.

The top-seeded Lady Cougars will meet the winner between Knott County Central and June Buchanan. The title contest will start at 6 p.m.

The Lady Cougars finished the regular season with a won-loss record of 26-3, including a 9-0 mark in the 14th Region and a 4-0 record in district play. Their only regular-season losses were to Lexington Henry Clay and Campbell County on August 24, and to Floyd Central on September 15, which they later avenged with a win over the Lady Jaguars on September 27.

LCC compiled the 26-3 regular season record by winning 71 individual games against only 12 individual losses in a total of 84 sets.

Team members are Trennity Baker, Emmalee Banks, Emma Bates, Jessica Boggs, Kakaylee Branham, Sarah Cates, Haley Chadwell, Tionna Collins, Emily Craft, Olivia Hammock, Rheagan Holbrook, Sydnee Madden, Emma Maggard, Madison Mason, Kayte Morgan, Morgan Rowe, Kandace Sturgill, and Kyann Williams.
