The Letcher County Central High School volleyball team won the 14th Region Volleyball Championship last week and will play in the first round of the KHSAA State Tournament at Louisville Valley High School. The match is expected to begin around 8:30 p.m.

The team is coached by Betty Caudill, who is assisted by Leigh and Kevin Nichols. The Lady Cougars won the regional final last Thursday by defeating Hazard 3-2 in a five-game match. It marked the eighth consecutive regional title for the volleyball team.

Named to the regional all-tournament volleyball team from LCC were Keisha Collins, Julie Cornett and Emi Nichols. Lady Cougar Ari Nichols was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

The Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association (KVCA) handed out their 2012 awards last week and Lady Cougar Julie Cornett was named 14th Region Player of the Year. Caudill was named 14th Region Coach of the Year.
