This is AmeriCorps Week in Kentucky, and the state will be hosting the national kickoff AmeriCorps event.
The event is called Build- A-Bed, and it’s a one-day building blitz to make 500 beds for children in need.
Children who receive a bed will also receive a mattress and other items, such as sheets, pajamas, books, nightlights, pillows, blankets and a toy or stuff ed animal.
Kentucky’s AmeriCorps programs are administered by the Kentucky Commission on Community Volunteerism and Service in the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. Commission Executive Director Eileen Cackowski says AmeriCorps members came up with the Build-A-Bed project through involvement with families in their communities. (AP)
