Volunteers hope turnout strong for prison hearing

The Federal Bureau of Prisons will hold a public meeting here today (Wednesday) to take comments on a new environmental impact statement for the proposed federal prison at Roxana.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30-8:30 p.m. April 12 Letcher County Central High School.

Copies of the Draft Supplemental Revised Final Environmental Impact Statement will be available to view at the four libraries in Letcher County, and online at www.fbopletchercountyeis.com.

Members of the Letcher County Planning Commission, a group of volunteers that has worked for more than a decade on the prison issue with U.S. Rep. Harold “Hal” Rogers, are calling on local citizens turn out in force to show the Bureau of Prisons the facility is wanted here.
