During your last trip to the Whitesburg Walmart you may have noticed some changes. Near the front entrance of the store, lots of Sheetrock and drywall are located to the left across from the shopping carts.
Walmart officials say an extensive renovation project is underway to improve shopping experiences for customers. The store will receive a full remodel from the inside out and will represent the latest in Walmart’s store design.
The newly created space will be made into a Walmart pharmacy and extra space will be available for a tenant to rent.
“Nothing is slated right now to go in there,” said Shawn Hubbard, Whitesburg Walmart assistant manager.
People have speculated that the space is being constructed for a doctor’s office.
“That’s what everyone is saying, but nothing has been signed,” said Hubbard. “It has the potential to be a clinic.”
The new design is based on feedback from customers and will feature a clean, open and bright new look in the store with wider aisles, low-profile shelving, bright interior paint scheme and lighting. Easyto read signs will help customers find the products they need.
“We are excited to bring an improved shopping experience to our customers,” said Whitesburg store manager Earline Delph. “We listened to our customers and are redesigning the store to make shopping at Walmart even easier.”
Every department of the store will be updated including all new shelving, signing, flooring and product assortment. The store will also feature a new layout designed to make shopping for everyday items easier and faster by aligning the products customers purchase the most.
Hubbard said the amount of items including food, electronics, chemical and paper goods stocked at the store will be expanded. The amount of apparel items placed in the store will shrink by about 40 percent.
Hubbard said merchandise will be moved several times during the remodel. Health and beauty items will be moved closer to the pharmacy.
The store will remain open during the renovations, including all departments and services. Maps of the store layout will be available at the entrance and directional signs will be located throughout the store. The majority of construction and moving will be completed during the overnight hours.
The Whitesburg Walmart is hiring approximately 60 additional employees to help with the remodel.
Hubbard said renovations started on Aug. 22 and are expected to be completed Nov. 5 with a regrand opening celebration.
