Wanted wins Battle of the Bands

Winner of the Battle of the Bands at the Blackey Day festival, held August 11, was the group Wanted. Band members are James Smith, Dean Click, Bub Slone, and Monty Teague. The first prize was a prom-package including studio recording time and radio air time.

Winners of the car and truck show were: Junior Banks, best of show; Jerry Collins, most original; Carter Scheffler, best unfinished; James Eldridge, best paint job; Lanny Fugate, best motor; Jason Craft, best wheels and tires; and Dusty Stanfield, best interior.

“Everyone enjoyed the festival despite the heat,” said Blackey Mayor Cathy Back. “My favorite part was getting to finally sit down after working all day.”

The one-day festival included music, free Shriners train rides, food and craft booths, gifts for children, a car and truck show, a Battle of the Bands, and a silent auction.

Among the crowd favorites at the festival were the Perkins Brothers, who impersonated about a dozen artists including Elvis Presley and Meatloaf.
