Headwaters Inc. and the Kentucky River Water Watch will host water assessment training workshops. Phase I, which will include training on grab sample and field chemistry, will be held from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. on April 16.
Clary Estes, OSM/VISTA and projects director of Headwaters Inc., says the training will allow Headwaters Inc. to extend work in volunteer watershed development in the coming years and help Kentucky overall in its watershed development goals.
During the four- hour training, participants will learn to take water samples on local watershed focus sites. At the conclusion of the training, they will be licensed to conduct these trainings for two years on behalf of the Kentucky River Water Watch and Headwaters Inc. Samples can be taken to Headwaters board members to be transported to the testing sites.
A spring pesticide sampling and conductivity and field measurements are set for May 13 and 14. Summer E coli sampling is scheduled for July 8 and 9. A summer E coli re-sampling will be held July 29 and 30. A fall lowflow sampling for chemicals/ nutrients/metals will take place September 10 through 12.
This will be the only sampling training in this area. To participate, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 606 634 8669.
