Waterpark provides kids with relief from heat

Southern Ohio

Hello again, everyone!

My computer is still down so once again I am at my friend, Linda Hollan’s. My computer guy is supposed to have mine fixed; so far he hasn’t got it done.

I am really missing communing with my friends, Shirley Wells, and Gwen Farmer. Actually, Gwen called to check on me; seems she missing me, too.

Gwen is so busy with her garden. She has put so much beans, okra and corn in her freezer.

I have one question: is it hot enough for everyone? Recently in our area it reached over 100 degrees.

I wonder if two of my favorite readers, Bruce and Levine Jones, are staying cool during these hot days.

Three of my grandchildren, Sarah, Jessica and Katelyn Nottingham, spent the night with me. It was so hot I was scared to take them to the waterpark at Miami-Whitewater Park. Early the next morning we packed a lunch but when we arrived at the park, it didn’t open until 11:00. The girls played for a while and by the time the waterpark opened, they were ready for it. It is always a pleasure to have the grandchildren at the house.

I went to the flea market at Brookville, Ind., and bought some half runner green bean. Sarah and Jessica helped break the beans; they really enjoyed helping me.

Sarah said they were delicious when we had them for supper. I baked cornbread. I don’t think the girls had ever had cornbread before.

My daughter, Anna, and her husband, Scott Nottingham, along with Sarah, Jessica and Katelyn are going camping at Lake Erie. I am trying to get them to leave the girls with me as I am afraid it will be too hot on them.

My sister, Loretta Church, is doing well. Her leg is healing and she has been able to sit up in a wheelchair. I made a mistake, her room number is 123 at Letcher Manor. Everyone is so good to Loretta. Letcher Manor is a really clean nursing home.

Junior Crockett, would you please give me a call. You will find my number in the reunion list in the paper!

I want to ask you something.

Please keep Sept. 29, open for Letcher County Day in Harrison, Ohio. I am really looking forward to this event.

Johnny Calihan came by the house with my garden supply. I really appreciate Johnny and Ann for their kindness.

Johnny and Ann’s daughter, Carol ,is doing a lot better. Carol was on a cruise and came back very ill.

My brother, Richie, and Wanda Hall are doing alright, except Wanda is about to croak it is so hot. Richie is loving it.

My brother, Jerry Hall, took had a bad fall and messed up his leg and face. Jerry doesn’t have very good coordination – now look who is talking. I can fall over my own feet sometimes.

My brother, Wallace Lee Hall, and his wife Georgia are both in the hospital at Whitesburg. I would have tried to go visit them, however I am afraid to travel too far in this heat, plus I haven’t been feeling up to par myself.

I am going to cut this column short as it is very difficult to write at someone else’s computer.

Until next time. Rose Ballard Durham, 9110 Lawrenceburg Road, Harrison, Ohio 45030, email Bluegrassmama4@aol.com.
