Weather delaying brick oven

Go to our Facebook page for announcements and pictures posted after each event, www.facebook.com/pages/Hemphill Community-Center.

The weather is interfering but it’s early 2018, right? Brick and mortar can’t be worked in extreme cold. We will get on with the brick oven as soon as the weather breaks. Meanwhile we are baking and experimenting with sour dough and regionally grown/ regionally milled flour and grains. Mother Nature knew this was a new frontier of baking for us. We think she is using the weather to give us time to re-blaze this ancient trail that somehow became overgrown from loss of travel by the bakers in our region. A fanciful thought is that maybe with the coming of the loaves to the coal company stores the art was lost for convenience sake. Just maybe????? Talk about social haunting, I’ll say!

Soon the green buds will start to swell, and the bees will start to emerge from their wintering. Right now it’s the time of armchair farming, dreaming of sunshine, and seedtime. Just stay tuned, sit tight, rest, and stay warm. Mother Nature, in all her glory, is doing her thing as only she knows how.

Black Sheep Bakery and good drug-free (chemical preservative free) bread is coming…

Schedule of events:

Friday Nite Pickin’ 7:30 p.m., Feb. 9: The Country Troubadours and the Valentine potluck dinner. This band is a dynamo of sound. We dance to and enjoy this group so much when they are with us. They are a great honkytonk band with the spice of Southern rock sprinkled in for good measure. You will love them too. Bring a covered dish of your speciality. Bring your sweetie or come looking for one.
