Weather makes for a mixed-up week

It has been a very mixedup week; several days last week we had rain, sunshine, and we also had a few nights where we woke up to frost on the rooftops the next morning. This week is beginning about the same.

Friday and Saturday were absolutely gorgeous with sunshine and no clouds, and I got a little bit sunburned. Saturday felt hotter and was in the upper 70s, and then on Sunday we woke up to rain.

Easter was beautiful day. That Wednesday we took the kids to the Easter candy hunt at Parkway Baptist Church. They were with their dad on Easter weekend, so I was invited to Easter dinner at the home of my friend, Jeff’s, cousin, Paula and her husband, Wes.

Her mom, Kathy Beavers, was there along with a lot of their family I’d met and others I met for the first time. It was a pretty, sunny day, and when we arrived we thought a few people were playing horseshoes. It turned out they were playing corn hole, which is a game I hadn’t even heard of until then. The temperatures were cooler by 6 in the evening, and we were both wishing we had brought our jackets by the time we left.

My mom, Judy Branham, and her husband Rick, and my grandma, Inez Hampton, all came up on Thursday for a visit. Mom had planned to come to town on Wednesday but went to the emergency room on Tuesday night and decided to postpone the trip a day.

They arrived on Thursday and we had a nice visit. The kids enjoyed going to the park and Jerrica wanted to eat at The Stephen Foster Restaurant. They chose to do the ‘all you can eat buffet’ and had a lot of fun. Bradi got the Dora the Explorer kitchen set she had been begging for since Christmas and we searched until we found one.

Bradi’s birthday is Monday, April 27, however, Mom wanted to visit between chemotherapy treatments while she felt well enough to travel and put energy into four kids.

Now that spring has arrived a lot of tourists are flocking to Bardstown and the Whiskey City Cruisers, the group of those who own hotrods, are doing their car shows every second Saturday each month, which began this month.

April 22 is Earth Day. Bardstown Elementary’s third-grade class of Mrs. Herndon is going on a field trip to Keystone Cinemas to see Earth.

Mrs. Hill’s kindergarten class at Bardstown Primary school is going to the zoo on May 22.

School makeup days begin with May 18, then there will be two or three days in June.

The Nelson County High School prom was this past Saturday night. The students were lucky, as the weather was perfect for a wonderful night out.

Prayer list this week includes Judy Branham, Jim Hardesty, June Clark, Kathy and Junior Beavers, Crystal Torres, Julie Bradford, Tracy and Donna Walker, Brother Ike Ferguson, Jeff Lester Sr., Diane Thompson, Tracy Cissell and Winfred Collins is still recuperating from a heart attack he had several months ago.

Everyone have a blessed and safe spring.

I need to add late happy birthday to Kathy Beavers, April 6, and her daughter Paula Crepps, on April 9.
