Hello all! I hope this finds each of you doing well. Our little family is doing just dandy. I know it has been a while since I have put anything in the paper and I apologize. I have just been so busy. Mom keeps onto me every week to write, but it seems I can never find the time.

How are you liking this fall weather? I absolutely love it. Fall is my favorite time of year. The mountains of eastern Kentucky are breathtaking when the leaves change colors. I can sit for hours and watch the leaves fall from the treetops to the ground.

It is once again time for long-sleeve t-shirts and light hoodies. I’ve had to break out the totes of fall/ winter clothes. I really need to find the time to go through the boys’ summer clothes, put them away, and move the fall stuff into the drawers. However, there just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day. So for now, I have totes sitting in the middle of the bedroom floors. It will be there when I can get to it, I am sure of that.

My mom and dad, Allen and Sylvania Whitaker, celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on October 8. We kids had a party for them on October 2 at the Dixon Memorial Church. We would like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped us in any way. We also want to thank those who took time out of their day to come out and be with us. A special thanks to Virgil and Freda Combs, who came to be with us even though Virgil is very sick. We had prayed hard that he would be able to attend. Also to Melanie Couch, who made an amazing cake for us even though her lupus has been flaring up and she wasn’t really able to do it.

Everyone helped to make it an amazing day for Mom and Dad. Oh, and before I forget, also thanks to those who brought or sent cards and gifts. They were appreciated, but not expected. We just wanted everyone to come out and be with us. That was gift enough.

Grandma, Lucy Halcomb Blair, hasn’t been feeling too well lately. Her hip and leg have been hurting her pretty bad. She is in need of prayers. Fred and Doris Halcomb came in from Tiffin, Ohio, to visit with her on Sunday, October 3. Mom, Sylvania Whitaker, said that Wila Dean and Becky Halcomb had been out to visit with Grandma that day as well.

Charles E. Blair has been having some problems with his health. He is supposed to go for a stress test on Wednesday. I hope everything is OK with his heart.

Ila Adams was having surgery at UK on October 4. They were going to remove cancer from her neck, I believe. Ila is very special to me. She reminds me so much of my late Mammie, Nella Whitaker. I pray they can remove the cancer successfully.

My heart breaks for the family of Jim Caudill. Jim passed away Tuesday, September 28. He was 68 years old. He was the son of the late John Astor and Betty Back Caudill. Surviving are his wife, Bertha Caudill; three children, Kathy Caudill (Jamie) Mitchell of Isom, Randy (Lisa) Caudill of Jeremiah, and Wade (Tammy) Caudill of Churchill, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren. Please keep this family in your prayers.

My late sister-in-law, Annette Miller Whitaker, died seven years ago on October 5. Annette was a very special lady and like a second mom to me. I stayed with her and Ward as much growing up as I did Mom and Dad. Our whole family misses her greatly. We will always love you, Nettie Poo.

My sister, Opal, just reminded me that Ellis Adams and family had their annual stir-off on Saturday, October 2, to make molasses. I remember going when I was younger and thinking that stuff tasted awful, but now I love it.

I am going to do my best to cover every birthday I have missed lately, but if I forget someone, please let me know.

Belated happy birthday to Kaleb Albers and Gardner Allen Jent, who celebrated their birthdays on September 5; Della Blair, 6; Aiden James Adams, 9; Lonis Morris, Tracy Snowden and Vette Caudill, 14; Lois Blair and Lori Wells, 15; Virgil Blair, 16; Dylan Watts, 17; Chalena Williams and Joy Watts, 20; Shirley Price Bullock and Emily Buchanan, 21; Lyndci Adams Gilliam, 23; Linda Halcomb- Cormican and Savannah Albers, 24; Lee Whitaker, 25; Ben West and Joseph Grom, 26; Jamie Collins and Dale Albers, 27; Brittany Blair, Charles E. Blair, Junie Whitaker, and Missy Fields, 28.

Will Blair celebrated his birthday on October 5. Lovell Blair will celebrate on October 11 and Jocelyn Adams-Watts on October 12. I hope your special day is filled with all the love and laughter in the world.

Donnie and Laronda Adams celebrated their wedding anniversary on September 26. I hope you had a wonderful day and will celebrate many more years together.

If I have left anyone or anything out, just let me know and I will be glad you get you next time. I hope everyone has a healthy and happy week. If you would like to contact me, feel free to give me a call or you may email me at alanacouch@ hotmail.com.
