Whitesburg library plans readings, book signings

From 1 to 4 p.m. on March 6, the Harry M. Caudill Memorial Library in Whitesburg will host a reading and book signing by Neva Bryan, author of “St. Peter’s Monsters”.

The novel, set in the coalfi elds of southwestern Virginia, is the story of Peter Sullivan, a college student teetering on the edge of alcoholism. He discovers bigger monsters than the bottle when a mysterious young woman enters his life.

Bryan, an award-winning poet, was born in Prestonsburg and grew up in Wise County, Va. Her poems and short are included in literary magazines throughout the southeast, the latest in the anthology We All Live Downstream, published by Motes Books, Louisville. Her next novel will be published late this year.

Another book signing and author reading will be held March 4, Benny Hamilton, author of ‘The Goat in the Coat’, will read his book to children at 10:30 a.m. and will sign books after the reading.

Hamilton began his writing career in 1992 and has had his poetry and short stories published on Lulu. com. He is from Frew in Leslie County. Kara Trujillo of Lebanon, Mo., is the illustrator of “The Goat in the Coat”, which is published by Outskirts Press in Denver, Colo.
