Members of the Whitesburg Lions Club will take to the airwaves on December 10 and 11 via WXKQ 103.9 FM and www.1039thebulldog.com to raise funds as part of the annual Whitesburg Lions Club radio auction. Items and services donated by area businesses will be auctioned off during these two nights. Funds raised by bids and monetary donations will be used to provide such services as purchasing eyeglasses for needy individuals, providing post secondary scholarships, supporting Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation to help ensure that those who need eye surgery can have it, and providing support to Lions Camp Crescendo, www.lions-campcrescendo.org/index.php, so children with vision and/ or hearing problems and children who are affected by AIDS can attend camp free of charge.
According to Lion President Edison G. Banks, “Money raised as a result of the Whitesburg Lions Club radio auction will allow Lions to meet pressing needs in our community including the purchase of eyeglasses. Lions members thank everyone who contributes to this important work. You are truly helping Lions make a difference in our community.”
The Whitesburg Lions Club has 20 members and meets on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at various locations. Lions Clubs identify needs within the community and work to fulfill those needs.
