Whitesburg City Police will hold sobriety and safety checkpoints throughout the Fourth of July weekend. Chief Tyrone Fields said the traffic checks will focus on impaired driving, seat belt use, and car seat use.
“Seat belts reduce the risk of serious injuries and death,” said Fields. “Making sure that your child is properly restrained can reduce serious physical injuries or death.”
Fields said studies show that an alcohol-related crash is nine times more likely to result in death.
“A death occurs every 51 minutes due to alcohol-related crashes,” he said.
