Water and sewer rates will be raised in the City of Whitesburg on July 1, after Ordinance 2019-3 has undergone a second reading next Tuesday and is published. The minimum rate for water customers inside the city will be $13.40 per month, and the rate for water customers outside the city will be $24 per month. Each water customer will be entitled to 2,000 gallons per month or less, if less than 2,000 gallons is used.
Rates for additional usage over the first 2,000 gallons for customers inside the city will be set at $11 for the next 2,000 gallons, $8 for the next 1,000 gallons and $11.56 for each 1,000 gallons over 5,000 gallons.
Rates for additional use over the first 2,000 gallons for customers outside city limits will be $18 for the next 2,000 gallons, $9.50 for the next 1,000 gallons, and $16.56 for each 1,000 gallons over 5,000 gallons.
The water connection charge for residential customers will be $125 and for commercial customers, $1,200. A deposit of $150 will be required for residential customers who rent the property. A deposit of $250 will be required for commercial rental customers. The deposits will be refunded when the account is paid in full, and service is no longer needed.
The sewer connection charge will be $150 for residential customers and $1,250 for commercial customers. Costs incurred by the city for amounts above the connection charges will be borne by the customer, who will pay the city for those costs. Sewer rates will be set at 115 percent of total amount of water usage.
The first reading of Ordinance 2019–03 was conducted on June 11. The second reading will be held at a special meeting of the Whitesburg City Council on June 18 at 5:30 p.m. at city hall.
The council also conducted the first reading of Ordinance 2019-4, which establishes new rates for home garbage pick-up and for using city Dumpsters.
A sanitation fee of $15 per month per household will be charged to residential customers, and to multi-housing units and apartment dwellings of $15 per month per housing unit for weekly collections of a two-can maximum per dwelling. Senior citizens 65 years or older who have proof of their age and who are the head of the household are eligible for a sanitation rate of $10 per month.
The commercial rate for Dumpsters per month is as follows. Two yards, one pick-up per week, $100. For two pick-ups per week, $200; two yard three pickups per week, $300; four pick-ups per week, $400; two yards, five pick-ups per week, $500; two yards, six pick-ups per week, $600.
The rate for three-yard Dumpsters is $160 per week for a single pickup, $320 per week for two pick-ups, $480 per week for three pick-ups, $640 per week for four pick-ups, $800 per week for five pickups, and $960 per week for six pick-ups.
The rate per week for a single pick-up of a six-yard Dumpster is $320. For two pick-ups, it is $640 per week, and for three pickups, it is $960. For four pick-ups the rate is $1,280, and for five pick-ups it is $1,600. For six pick-ups, the rate per week is $1,920.
The rate per week for an eight-yard dumpster is $480 for a single pick-up. For two pick-ups it is $960, and for three pick-ups it is $1,440. For four pick-ups the rate is $1,920, for five pick-ups a week, the rate is $2,400, and the rate for six pick-ups a week is $2,880.
The city has established a tax rate of $200 per commercial compactor per customer and the minimum rate for pick-up of compacted trash is $50 per pick-up. All construction garbage will be handled on an individual basis and the cost will be based on Dumpster size plus a $100 rental fee per Dumpster per week. Ordinance 2019-4 will also become effective July 1 following a second reading and publication.
