Whitesburg KY

— An old railroad bridge between the Madison Avenue area of Whitesburg and the Upper Bottom got a facelift recently as part of the effort to build a hiking and bicycling trail as a tourist attraction. The Tanglewood Trail is mostly on the old railroad right-of-way and has been a walking trail for years, but the Letcher County Tourism Commission is upgrading it to attract tourists. It is planned to eventually run through the railroad tunnel near the water treatment plant, along the Kentucky River and to the top of Pine Mountain to join with the Pine Mountain Trail. HOMES Inc. did the work on the old bridge, widening the concrete deck to 10 feet and building rough wood and chain-link railing. (Photo by Sam Adams)
