Wild greens you can eat

There’s a world of tasty, freefor the-picking leaf vegetables to be found in fields, in vacant lots, along streams and even shooting up among your own garden crops! Plants like crow’s foot, lamb’s quarters, turkey salad, watercress, chickweed, chicory and on and on, are very nutritious and delicious. If you would like to learn more about the different wild greens you can pick and eat, you will want to attend a workshop on wild greens to be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 23, at the Letcher County Extension Office in Whitesburg.

Ruby C. Breeding is a local woman who is an expert on finding and identifying wild greens that you can cook and enjoy with your family meals. She will share information on the best time of year to find wild greens and where they grow. You will also receive some recipes to take home.

There will be a $2 registration fee. The Letcher County Extension Office is located on Extension Drive off Stone Avenue and the Whitesburg By-pass. Call the office at 633-2362 if you have questions.
