Will Caudill, Rt. 7 to bring in Old Christmas

Go to our Facebook page for announcements and pictures posted after each event, www.facebook.com/pages/Hemphill Community-Center.

The old year was a hard year for us. We have had to rethink a lot of things and roll up our sleeves and use more elbow grease. Change is always hard but not always bad. Entering 2017 we are hopeful for the future and determined to fulfill the vision for the Center. If you have a heart to be involved we would love to have you come join in. We meet the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

We are grateful for our community service folks who help out tremendously on a daily basis. You guys are the bomb!!!

We also want to express our gratitude to all the friends of Hemphill Community Center who help out in various ways. A special thanks also to our friends at The Mountain Eagle. It still screams!

We cannot do what we do without all the help. We can’t thank you enough!

Happy Old Christmas!!! Interesting information on this holiday can be found at: www.telliquah.com/OldXmas.htm.

Schedule of events:

Senior Fellowship Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Lunch and service provided by seniors for seniors. Hold on to your hat because this is a spunky crew! They don’t need no rocking chair.

Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m., Old Christmas. Will Caudill and Rt. 7 will return for another of the awesome shows they are always good for. We look forward to their visit with us each month. The vocals are tight and smooth and the music is superb. They play bluegrass music at its absolute best. This is the perfect thing to do on a cold winter evening. We can promise you will be happy while you are with us. We’ll be watching for your arrival. You are always welcome at our place.

Jan. 8: Sunday dinner from noon to 3 p.m. This month we are having hot soup and sandwiches. A choice of chili, herb tomato, and potato cheddar soup, paired with grilled cheese or grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, salad, dessert and drinks. $12 adults, $8 children, children 3 and under eat free. Available for carryout. This is a monthly fundraiser for the center.

Sunday, Jan. 22, from 2 to 5 p.m.: The first-ever monthly shape note singing in the do ra mi tradition. This is an ancient art form. It will feed your soul’s need for creative expression. No experience necessary, no talent necessary, no church affiliation necessary! Come out and join us for this community effort to rebuild the singing culture in Hemphill, for which we were once well known. Please bring a snack to share and a dollar or two for a love offering for the facility. Coffee and water will be provided. All are welcome!

Jan. 27: The Right Fork Ramblers.

Friday Nite Pickin’: Children get in free when accompanied by an adult. Open mic at intermission. Family friendly environment.
