We had a great group of singers who gathered for our very first shape note sing. We had great fun learning through trial and error. The camaraderie and laughter was priceless. This event will take place the fourth Sunday of each month from 2 to 5 p.m.
Schedule of events:
Senior Fellowship Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Lunch and service provided by seniors for seniors. Hold on to your hat because this is a spunky crew! They don’t need no rocking chair.
Friday Nite Pickin’ Jan. 27, at 7:30 p.m., The Right Fork Ramblers will be coming from over the mountain to wow us with their great picking and close vocal harmonies. These guys are totally awesome bluegrass pickers. All of them are wonderful guys. Come out and dance or just listen. It’s up to you, but you will be glad you came either way. Come join us as we enjoy our time together.
Feb. 3: Will Caudill and RT 7.
Feb. 10: The Country Troubadours will be with us. Other musician friends will be playing for us too. This show will be a fundraiser for the Center and we will also have a spaghetti dinner for purchase. Bring your sweetie or come looking for a sweetie. All singles are welcome to join us. You will never be lonely or a wallflower at our place, unless that’s what you chose. Many thanks to the Country Troubadours for donating their time, talent, and treasure to further our cause.
Feb. 12: Sunday dinner from noon to 3 p.m. This month we are having hot soup and sandwiches. A choice of chili, herb tomato, and potato cheddar soup paired with grilled cheese or grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, salad, dessert and drinks. $12 adults, $8 children, children 3 and under eat free. Available for carryout. This is a monthly fundraiser for the center on the second Sunday of each month.

Sunday Feb. 26, from 2 to 5 p.m., the monthly shape note singing in the do ra mi tradition. This is an ancient art form. It will feed your soul’s need for creative expression. No experience necessary, no talent necessary, no church affiliation necessary! Come out and join us for this community effort to rebuild the singing culture in Hemphill, for which we were once well known. Please bring a snack to share and a dollar or two for a love offering for the facility. Coffee and water will be provided. All are welcome!
Friday Nite Pickin’: Children get in free when accompanied by an adult. Open mic at intermission. Family friendly environment.
Inclement weather policy: If the main roads are clear and our parking lot is clear we will generally have scheduled events. Check our Facebook page for cancellations. Cancellations will be posted at least two hours before any scheduled event.
