The Jenkins High School’s once-magical 2012 football season ended November 2 when Williamsburg High School defeated the Cavaliers 60-6 in the opening round of the Class 1A playoffs.
Coach Eric Ratliff’s team, which finished with a 4-7 record, opened the season in August with wins over Phelps and Allen Central. After stumbling at South Floyd, the Cavaliers whipped Paintsville and Jackson County before losing a close one at Knott County Central to drop their record to 4-2.
Jenkins was then unable to compete effectively against perennial powers Pineville, Hazard and Harlan before ending the regular season with a loss to Betsy Layne.
Williamsburg (10-1) will host Harlan (6-5) in the second round of the playoffs on November 9. Hazard (7-3) will host Pineville (6-5) on the same night.
