Over the past two weeks Whitesburg Middle School students have been raising money to donate to the people of Haiti. What was initially a minimal project with an expected goal of $200 soon gave way to a full scale competition between the homerooms. A daily total was calculated and posted as more and more donations continued to fill the canisters. The earlier goal of $200 was soon surpassed by $400, $600, and even $800. The contributions were rounded out March 12 with a bake sale. A total of $1229.54 was reached and will be donated to Samaritan’s Purse.
Also on Friday, the stu- dents were able to watch a clip from the Samaritan’s Purse website to see firsthand how their donations would assist the people of Haiti. Tarps for temporary housing, clean drinking water, hygiene products, and food are only a few of the areas in which their donations will be of assistance.
