Woman, 44, killed in wreck at Ermine

A Deane woman died Monday night of injuries she suffered in a two-vehicle collision at Ermine.

Dorothy Baker Sturgill, 44, was pronounced dead at 7:12 p.m. on Nov. 2 by Letcher County Coroner Wallace Bolling Jr. at the Whitesburg hospital.

Sturgill was a passenger in a Ford Aspire being driven by Melissa Adams of Spring Branch at Jeremiah. Bolling said Adams turned left onto U.S. 119 out of the Ermine Double Kwik and pulled in front of a mini van being driven by Dick Bowers of Knott County. Bolling said it is unclear if the Aspire’s lights were illuminated enough for Bowers to see that the small car had entered the road headed toward Whitesburg.

Adams and Bowers were taken to the Whitesburg hospital for treatment of minor injuries and were later released.

Carty Funeral Home in Neon has charge of funeral arrangements for Ms. Sturgill, which were pending at press time.

Kentucky State Police Troopers Brandon Thomas and Randy Surber responded to the scene along with Lieutenant Brian Damron of the Letcher County Sheriff ‘s Department.

The accident remains under investigation by Thomas.
