Woman faces drug charges

A Cram Creek woman has been charged with illegally selling one drug that gets users high and another that helps recovering addicts avoid the pains of withdrawal.

Brenda Webb, 47, of 512 Highway 3410, Mayking, was arrested on December 30 and charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (OxyContin) and second-degree possession of a controlled substance (Suboxone).

“The sheriff’s department had been getting complaints about drug trafficking at this residence for years,” said Sgt Brian Damron of the Letcher County Sheriff’s Department.

Damron said OxyContin is a widely abused prescription narcotic in Letcher County which sells illegally for $100 to $120 per tablet. Suboxone doesn’t get users high, but is becoming more popular on the black market because it keeps addicts from suffering symptoms associated with withdrawal.
